Why Doesn’t More Conditioner Mean Softer Clothes?
It is easy to assume that if a certain amount of fabric conditioner makes a towel feel soft, using two or three times as much should make it even softer.
But fabric conditioning does not work that way.

Can Fabric Conditioner Restore Very Old or Rough Fabric?

If an old towel has become extremely hard and its fibres are badly worn, conditioning may improve how it feels. But it cannot necessarily restore the towel to exactly the softness it had when it was new.
That distinction is important because roughness caused by ordinary washing and roughness caused by significant fabric wear are not necessarily the same problem.

Aim for the Right Level of Conditioning
The objective of fabric conditioner is not to deposit as much product as possible onto the fabric.
The objective is to improve the feel of already-clean fabric.
So when it comes to fabric conditioner, more is not automatically better. The appropriate amount should provide the desired conditioning effect without leaving the fabric feeling overloaded with product.
